Face Shape & Hairstyles
Face Shape and Hairstyles

If you've ever wondered what hairsytle would look best before you get that cute cut you saw on the woman at Marshalls, check out this guide. We can help show you that by using your face shape as a rule of thumb, you can take away some of the guess work and long term commitment of a bad style.

There are six basic facial shapes (diamond, heart, oval, rectangle, round or square) although you may appear to be a mix of shapes, choose the one that stands out more. To determine your face shape, while looking in the mirror (or with a friend) pull your hair from your forehead and temples and match your face shape to the descriptions below.

If you have a heart shaped face, your face is wider at the top and narrow at the chin. Your best styling tip is to decrease volume in the crown and at the side, ear areas. Adding curl and fullness to the chin area can help round out the look. Wisps on the jaw area or bangs can help give a wider rounder appearance. Avoid styles that mirror the heart shape.

If you have a diamond shaped face, your face is wider at the cheebone area and narrow at the top and bottom. Your best styling tip is to decrease volume in the crown and at the side, ear areas. Adding curl and fullness to the chin area and just above the temples can help round out the look. Avoid styles that mirror the diamond shape.

If you have a round face, your face is evenly sized top, bottom and sides like a circle. Your best styling tip is to decrease the volume at the sides and ear area. Increase height and length should be beyond the chin or just above it. A side part works well. Keeping hair off the face at the cheek area is also recommended.

Ij you have a square shaped face, you have a squared off forhead and chin with even width cheeks. You best style is one that rounds out your hair to decrease the appearance of a square face shape. Adding curl, angled or wispy bangs, and a few wisps on the cheek area will all help. A cut that allows for some height is also a good idea. Wear a side part as opposed to a center part. Avoid straight bangs and hanging hair.

If you stll cannot tell what shape your face is, pull your hair back off your face and tie it in a pony tail if possible, or if it is short with a wide headband. Look straight in the mirror and trace the shape with a bar of soap or a crayon. Make sure to only trace your face following the hairline around your temples and forehead. Copyright salonweb.com
